About the project: Between spring 2003 and winter 2005, an exchange between the artist groups ointment and Boréal Art/Nature gave place to two residencies: Crwydro/Wander, in the Preseli Hills in west Wales, and Marcheurs des bois, in the Québécois winter, on a frozen lake in the Laurentian forest. Walking was the common strategy used by the 12 artists involved in the projects. The trilingual publication (French, English and Welsh) contains documentation of the two expeditions, punctuated by texts, artists’ writings, drawings and photographs of works and actions.

ointment is an itinerant collective of artists working in Live and interdisciplinary Art practices, based in West Wales.
An artist-led initiative that has grown from our wish to produce and show work within and relating to aspects of our locale; ointment events explore unique responses to current environmental and rural change in conversation with a growing audience. We constantly aim to develop a place-sensitive language of ideas and images in rural and agricultural sites.
ointment has a core of four artists, for each event we invite new contributors from within and without West Wales. An important objective of our group is to foster sustainable opportunities particularly for contemporary time based art, in the region.
In 2005 ointment took part in a two week residency in Quebec. This project, Marcheurs des Bois was the return leg of the crwydro project. Menter yn cael ei harwain gan artistiaid yw hon sydd wedi tyfu o'n dymuniad i gynhyrchu ac arddangos gwaith o fewn ac yn ymwneud ag agweddau ar ein bro; mae digwyddiadau ointment yn archwilio ymatebion unigryw i newidiadau amgylcheddol a gwledig presennol trwy drafod gyda chynulleidfa gynyddol. Ceisiwn yn gyson ddatblygu iaith o syniadau a delweddau sy'n sensitif i le mewn safleoedd gwledig ac amaethyddol.
Mae gan ointment graidd o bedwar artist, ac ar gyfer pob digwyddiad byddwn yn gwahodd cyfranwyr newydd o Orllewin Cymru a thu hwnt. Un o amcanion pwysig ein grwp yw meithrin cyfleoedd cynaliadwy, yn enwedig ar gyfer celfyddyd gyfoes seiliedig ar amser yn yr ardal.
