Les Marcheurs des Bois : Walkers of the Woods

(a Boreal / ointment project, Feb - March 2005)

Marcheurs Des Bois documentation The second part of an Intercultural Exchange between artist groups ointment (Wales) and Boreal Art/Nature (Quebec), Marcheurs des Bois was a project based in the Laurentian mountains, north of Montreal in Reserve Rouge Matawin during February 2005, the heart of Quebec winter.

Twelve artists participated in this project, accomodated in a hunting lodge on the edge of the frozen Lac Des Sucreries (Sugar Lake). Over two weeks of group and solo expeditions ensued, each artist finding a way to come into relationship with the extremes of the season and the often parallel and colliding phenomena of wilderness and culture in this landscape. Ultimately the artists presented a series of ephemeral actions, performances and installations both on and around the frozen lake, indoors and beyond to the public, both local and from Montreal and Quebec cities.

Marcheurs des Bois was coordinated by local Boreal members Jeane Fabb and Daniel Poulin.
